“We are journeying together in God’s love . . .

to discover, nurture and share our gifts.”

Reformation Sunday

October 29, 2006

As Jesus invited Bartimaeus to follow on the way, Christ calls us to the way of new life as well. Faith opens our eyes to see God’s transforming work in our lives as we follow. What do you want Christ to do for you? What do you need to throw aside in order to follow with a  wide open faith?

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1792) was born in Salzburg, Austria. He started performing and composing by the age of six. In his short life span, he composed over 600 works including the Requiem, operas, symphonies, concertos and music for various instruments. Music from this classic period continues to be performed and enjoyed in our age and on this day.

If you would like to stay seated for any or all of the “standing” parts of the service, please feel free to do so.

Call to Worship (Responsive)

One:        God, creator of the universe, creator of planet Earth,

All:      we adore you in our worship!

One:        God, inspiration of our faith community,

All:      we praise you in our worship!

One:        God, who opens our eyes to the needs of faith communities throughout the world,

All:      we are challenged to share through our worship!

One:        God, whose compassionate and merciful way is known in Jesus Christ,

All:      we respond with our love to Christ’s love. Let us worship God!

Prayer of Approach (Unison)

One:        God, we glory in your creative miracle.

All:      Your world is so wonderful: the sunrise, the vast seas, the mountain ranges, and the gift of life to each one of us.

One:        God, we glory in your sustaining miracle:

All:      the certainty of the returning seasons, the growing awareness of young children.

One:        God, we glory in your miraculous Word,

All:      which reveals your loving presence and which challenges us to bring hope.

One:        We glory in Jesus, the miracle of New Life,

All:      who enabled the blind to see, the disciples to have insight, and the despised to know power. God of miracles, we joyfully adore you! Amen.

Prayer of Transformation & Assurance of Pardon

God open our eyes and enable us to see the cost of injustice, as well as the fruits of prosperity. Open our eyes and enable us to see the hopes and dreams of loved ones, as well as our own defined goals.  Open our eyes and enable us to see our own faults, as clearly as the faults of others. God, open our eyes, and enable us to see how our faith community can meet neighbourhood needs and serve the global church.  Open our eyes, that we may envision your way of seeing revealed in Jesus whose love lights our way with truth and calls us to action. Tonight @ 4:00 p.m. on Vision TV

October 29, 2006—People of Faith Say Stop HIV and AIDS - AIDS 2006, an international gathering held in Toronto this August, was a time for people living with HIV/AIDS, advocates, community leaders, scientists, health care providers, donors, and policy-makers to focus on the key challenges in collective efforts to provide HIV/AIDS care and treatment and to prevent new infections. Churches play a unique role in these ongoing efforts. At ecumenical meetings a week before the conference, church delegates discussed new opportunities for reaching even the most marginalized with dignity and hope.
