“We are journeying together in God’s love . . .

to discover, nurture and share our gifts.”

November 5, 2006

Please support our Food Bank drive the 1st Sunday of each month

Leaving home forms a metaphor for journeys we all undertake at various points in our lives. While we may feel we are setting out alone, the gift of community or companionship on such a journey changes us. In the course of the journey, we may be surprised to find ourselves “at home”. Who needs you to accompany them on life’s journey, come what may? What does it mean to show love toward these persons?

The Requiem is one of Mozart’s most celebrated works. This morning we will hear excerpts from it by the Medicine Hat College Adult Choir directed by Joanne Collier and accompanied by Con Shandro.

If you would like to stay seated for any or all of the “standing” parts of the service, please feel free to do so.

Call to Worship (Responsive)

One:        Praise the maker of the earth.

All:      Happy are those whose help is in God.

One:        Praise God who cares for the oppressed and provides enough for all.

All:      Happy are those whose help is in God.

One:        Praise God who watches over those who feel included and those who feel left behind.

All:      Happy are those whose help is in God.

One:        Let us worship God.

Prayer of Approach (Unison)

God, who is to us the loving Mother and Father of all peoples, we open our hearts to you and the life you give. Help us to breathe in deeply of your wild and wonderful Spirit and inspire us with your presence so that we might be at peace with all of who we are, and more fully become the people you have called us to be. Amen.

Prayer of Transformation & Assurance of Pardon

God of each unfolding moment, you bring all of creation into being. Again and again we receive your gifts of love and friendship in family and community. We trust that you are with us always and everywhere. Yet we often act as if we do not trust you. We try to keep ourselves safe rather than reaching out to others. Sometimes we do not even care for ourselves, and are unable to care for others. We let fear inhibit our courage. We find it difficult to love. Forgive us, and help us to find your life-giving presence in every moment we live and every person we meet... (Time of Silent Reflection).

You shall go out with joy and be led forth with peace;

there'll be shouts of joy, and all the trees of the field

will clap, will clap their hands!

And all the trees of the field will clap their hands, (clap, clap)

the trees of the field will clap their hands, (clap, clap)
