“We are journeying together in God’s love . . .
to discover, nurture and share our gifts.”
March 9, 2008
Lent V
Though we will die, in Christ we live. The witness of Scripture invites us to trust that there are no endings that stretch beyond God’s boundless care and power to redeem. When in your life have you found hope in the steadfast, saving love of God? How might you, in your church, offer such hope to those who grieve?
If you would like to stay seated for any or all of the “standing” parts of the service, please feel free to do so.
Prelude
A time of silent preparation—Lighting the Christ Candle
Call to Worship (Responsive)
One: As we move toward Good Friday – uncertainty grips us, as it does the disciples. We know that enthusiasm can turn to rejection;
All: what will it take to keep our commitment strong?
One: The powers promoting excessive self-indulgence are always ready for us.
All: Will we have the courage to stay faithful?
We are a worshipping community. We will “sing the praise of him who died.” We will work together to defeat the forces of injustice. We are a community of faith. We will proclaim the Good News. We are a venturing community. In our acceptance, in our readiness to serve, in our endurance, we will proclaim the root of our discipleship. Amen.

Prayer for Transformation & Words of Assurance
We will not allow the jeering crowd to influence us. We will speak out for the faithful way, even if it costs us. The nails no longer have the last word. We will break free from those situations that hold us fast. The persuasive speech of a powerful leader no longer controls us. We will trust in our own abilities to encounter the Holy and will look to the pattern of Jesus Christ. The stress of suffering, the thought of dying, no longer dominates us. We will face the most severe tests and emerge through…(time for silent reflection).
