“We are journeying together in God’s love . . .

 to discover, nurture and share our gifts.”

June 1, 2008

Local Food Needs Sunday &

Congregational Picnic and Sunday School Wind-up

God continues to redeem and transform, offering the gift of new beginnings in our lives and in all creation. In what ways can you cooperate with God’s ongoing work of creation?

If you would like to stay seated for any or all of the “standing” parts of the service, please feel free to do so.

A Time of Greeting

A time of silent preparation—Lighting the Christ Candle

Call to Worship (Responsive)

One:     Be still, know that God is here.

All:      The mountains may rock, the waters may rage, and God will not be moved!

One:     Be still, know that God is here.

All:      Governments may fall, rulers may be overthrown, and God will not be moved!

One:     Be still, know that God is here.

All:      The terrorists may do their worst, civilization may hang in the balance, and God will not be moved!

Opening Prayer (Unison)

God, we come with our eyes and imaginations filled with the hard things of our world.  We come seeking inspiration to see your signs, know your healing, and to be sent forth renewed as your people.

Hymn # 820 “Make A Joyful Noise”

Sunday School Recognition

The Sunday School & Youth go into Memorial Hall for crafts.

Prayer for Transformation & Words of Assurance

One:     God, you ask that we lay down strong foundations for our  life in Christ;

All:      you show us your Word, with its wisdom of the ages.

One:     God, you ask that we lay down strong foundations;

All:      you remind us of your saints, and challenge us to examine their values.

One:     God, you ask that we lay down strong foundations;

All:      you call us to remember the faith community that nurtures us, and rejoice in its service.

One:     God, you ask that we lay down strong foundations;

All:      you direct us to the Crucified and Risen One, and call us to discipleship.

Our Church Tithes and Offerings

Offertory

Dedication #537 “Your Work, O God, Needs Many Hands” vv 1&2

Your work, O God, needs many hands to help you everywhere, and some there are who cannot serve unless our gifts we share.

Because we love you and your work, our offering now we make: be pleased to use it as your own, we ask for Jesus' sake.

Prayer of Dedication (One)

Prayer of Thanksgiving, Intercession & Lord’s Prayer

Hymn # 563 “Jesus, You Have Come to the Lakeshore”

Commissioning (One)

We go from this time of renewal to honour the precious creation of God. Abiding Spirit, call us to non-violence where there is violence, call us to restoration where there is destruction, call us to memory where the stories of hope are lost.

Choral Amen

#884 “You Shall Go Out With Joy” x2

You shall go out with joy and be led forth with peace;

the mountains and the hills will break forth before you;

there'll be shouts of joy, and all the trees of the field

will clap, will clap their hands!

And all the trees of the field will clap their hands, (clap, clap)

the trees of the field will clap their hands, (clap, clap)

the trees of the field will clap their hands, (clap, clap)

while you go out with joy.
