Sheldon Douglas Miller
March 17, 1980 - November 18, 2009
With heavy hearts, the Miller family
regretfully announces the sudden death of Sheldon Douglas in
a tragic work-related accident on Wednesday, Novemeber 18th,
2009 at the age of 29.
Sheldon leaves to cherish his memory his
loving wife, Stephanie, two sons, Zachary (6) and
Cameron(4), his mother and father, Judy and Doug; his
sister, Krista, (Mark) Davies,; "Little Gramma", Joan
Dolman; Joan Dolman; his mother and father-in-law, Lorraine
and Denis Vaillancourt[ his sisters-in-law, Melaine (Brad)
Foote and niece Sophie, and Natasha Vaillancourt.
Sheldon was born on March 17th, 1980. He
attended George Davidson Elementary School and graduated
from CHHS in 1998. He then attended Olds College where
he attained a Horticultural Diploma specializing in Turf
Management. He was employed by the Medicine Hat Regional
Hospital as the Head Groundskeeper, taking great pride in
his work.
Sheldon loved all sports. As he grew
up, he played soccer, baseball, and excelled in hockey.
As an adult, he grew to love the game of golf, in which he
was an excellent player. Sheldon loved teaching his boys all
about the rules of sports, especially golf, and he enjoyed
teaching them how to skate and play ball as well. Aside from
spending time with his family and sports, Sheldon was an
avid cat lover. It wouldn't be strange for him to be sitting
watching the hockey game with his boys on either side of him
and a cat on each knee.
Above everything else, Sheldon was a loving
husband, father, son, brother and friend who will be greatly
missed by everyone who knew him.
Funeral services were held Monday, November
23rd, 2009 at Westminster United Church, with Rev James
Farrell officiating, |

Helen June Stein
June 10, 1921 ~ November 1, 2009
Mrs. Helen J. Stein
of Medicine Hat, beloved wife of the late Theodore ‘Ted’
Stein, passed away peacefully at the Sunnyside Nursing Home
on Sunday, November 1, 2009, at the age of 88 years. Helen
leaves to cherish her memory: children, Joyce (Bob) Werre
and Dale (Lenora) Stein; grandchildren, Darrell (Renée)
Werre, Jeff (Lorri Craipley) Werre, Vincent (Nicole) Stein,
Kristin (Angus McCowan) Stein; great-grand children, Justin
and Jared Werre, Kennedy and Rachel Werre and their mother,
Laurie Pollard, as well as Gavin Stein. She is also survived
by one brother, Fred (Nora) Ackerman of Calgary; two
sisters, Margaret (Vic) Retzlaff of Abbotsford, BC and
Noreen Cuciz of Vancouver, BC; sister-in-law, Margorie Wood
of Seattle, WA, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was
predeceased by her parents, John and Elizabeth Ackerman;
five brothers, Walter, Emil, Henry and Leroy Ackerman,
Reinhold Hergenhein; two sisters, Ann Duchak and Edna Smith;
one sister-in-law, Mina Teel as well as five
brothers-in-law, Otto Seitz, Bill Duchak, Ron Smith, Wesley
Wood and Gordon Teel.
Helen June Ackerman
was born to John and Elizabeth Ackerman on the family farm
near Hilda, Alberta on June 10, 1921. Helen moved to
Medicine Hat in 1938, and married Ted Stein on July 8, 1942.
Helen and Ted enjoyed many wonderful years together before
his passing on May 28, 1981. Helen’s greatest joy came from
time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was a kind, gentle soul and will be missed by all who
knew and loved her. Funeral services were held at Cook
Southland Funeral Chapel on Friday, November 6, 2009 from
10:00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m.
A Celebration of
Helen’s life was held at Westminster United Church, 101 - 6
Street S.E., Medicine Hat on Friday, November 6, 2009, at
2:00 P.M. Reverend James Farrell officiated. |

Lynette Kelly
November 17, 1957 - October 20, 2009
Marie was born on
November 17, 1957 in
Lampman, Saskatchewan and passed away after a courageous
battle with cancer on Tuesday,
October 20, 2009 in Medicine Hat, Alberta at the age of
51. She is survived by her two loving sons,
Glenn of Redcliff, five siblings, Linda Cook (Bob Craig)
of Alix, Gerry Faulk (Cheryl Dupe) of Wetaskiwin, Perry
Faulk (Colleen Smith) of Medicine Hat, Beth (Martin)
Andreas of Shackleton, Saskatchewan, and Brian (Kathy)
Faulk of Delburne. She is also lovingly remembered
by numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and
countless friends.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, October 24th, 2009
at 1:00 pm at Hillside Cemetery. |

Al Smith
April 29, 1920 - October 5, 2009
Al was born on
April 29, 1920 in
Paradise Hill, Saskatchewan and passed away on Monday,
October 5th in Medicine Hat, Alberta at the age of 89.
He is survived by his wife Margaret "Peggy" Smith - his
three daughters; Cheryl Pickett and her daughter, Amanda
and son Geoffrey; Penny Kerr and her daughters, Heather
(Andreas) Rauscher and their son Carsten, and Maureen
(Brad) Hauck and their daughter, Willow; Doreen (Ron)
Sitter and their family, Paul, Valerie (Cory) Pohl and
their son, Revan, Victoria (Chris) DeVita and their
children, Kassandra and Alexander and James (Zemeta)
Sitter and their daughters Saba and Samra. Al also
leaves behind other family and friends including his
brothers in law, George (Joan) Rolfe, Adrian Sites, and
his sister in law, Joan Thompson and many nieces,
nephews, cousins, and a multitude of friends.

Olive Pringle
August 16, 1916 - September 4, 2009
Olive Matilda Rose
Pringle (nee Ellwood) of Medicine Hat, passed away on
Friday, September 4th, 2009 at the age of 93 years,
beloved wife of the late Hugh Pringle. She leaves to
cherish her memory her two children Dawn (Jack) Knowles
and Bill (Monique) Pringle; five grandchildren, Shauna
(Glen Prusky) Pringle, Jeffery (Cindy) Pringle and Erin
(Jeff) Kleim and their mother Lynn Snowden, Katharine
Knowles, and Tanis (Patrick) Yarnell; four great
grandchildren, Kathryn, Lauren, and Hayden Martin and
their father Derek, Olivia Yarnell; one sister Dorothy
McInnis and one brother Lorne (Jo) Ellwood of Red Deer
as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Olive was born in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan on August
16th, 1916 and was raised on the farm by her
grandparents after her mother died of cancer. Olive
showed an interest in art at an early age and throughout
her life, enjoying pottery and painting. She married
Hugh Pringle on March 17, 1941 and they had a happy life
together for 62 years. They raised their family in
Marshall, Saskatchewan where they worked side by side at
the grocery store they built and owned. While there,
they enjoyed curling and dancing. Olive loved to dance
and said she was always dancing in her head. In 1962,
they moved to Saskatoon where Olive worked at Eaton’s in
the Ladies Wear department, a great fit for the smart
dresser that she was. In the mid-70s, Olive and Hugh
moved to Medicine Hat to be closer to their children and
grandchildren. Here, Olive made more friends, took art
classes, enjoyed gardening and volunteered for many
years at The Post. To the very end, Olive talked to us
about her wonderful life and she wanted us to celebrate

Gerald was born on
October 14, 1933 in
Innisfail,, Alberta and passed away on July 18, 2009 at the age of 75 years,
beloved husband of Janice Foster of Medicine Hat.
He also leaves to cherish his memory his children, Keith
Foster of Lethbridge, Gordon Foster, Dale Foster both of
Grimshaw and Peggy (Todd) Bailey of Penhold; two
granddaughters, Karlee Bailey and Breana Bailey both of
Penhold.
Funeral Services were held Thursday, July 23, 2009. |

Dorothy Swiderski
October 7, 1928 - June 9, 2009
Dorothy Swiderski passed away on Tuesday, June 9, 2009,
at the age of 80 years, beloved wife of Albert Swiderski
of Medicine Hat. She also leaves to cherish her memory
her children, Laura (Brian) Merkley and Mike Swiderski
all of Medicine Hat; three grandchildren, Quinnten
Gackle, Shannon Gackle and Taryn Gackle; one sister,
Iris (John) Krawetz of Winnipeg, Manitoba as well as
numerous nieces and nephews. Dorothy was born on
October 7, 1928 at Ranfurly, Alberta, being raised there
and in the Peace River district. As a family they moved
to Medicine Hat, where her dad was a guard at the P.O.W.
camp. Dorothy later moved to Edmonton and eventually to
Winnipeg. She was employed with R. Smith and Company
where she was a cook for the CPR bridge building. That
is where she met Albert and they were married on January
28, 1972 in Regina. They lived in Regina and Thunder Bay
before settling in Medicine Hat. Dorothy enjoyed the
roses that Albert grew for her, dancing and old western
movies.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, June 13, 2009.

Elmer Emilie Nieman

Elmer was born on
May
31, 1922 in Medicine Hat, Alberta
and passed away on June 21, 2009
in Medicine Hat, Alberta at the age of 87 years.
Known as a hard working man and a proud
grandfather, Debbie and Brian gave a fitting tribute.
The video tribute portrayed a man who served many; the
Army, the CPR and most importantly he was known to his
family as Pappa.

Larry Wayne
Knibbs, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed
away on Friday, May 1, 2009, at the age of 56 years. He
leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 37 years,
Karen; his children, Chris and his wife Laurina Knibbs
and Kim and her husband Denes Simo; three grandchildren,
Tristan, Luke and new baby Simo along with many family
members, friends, colleagues and students. As a teacher
for almost 30 years and an avid outdoors man, Larry
touched many people’s lives instilling in them his love
and appreciation of the outdoors along his way.
Funeral services were held at Westminster United Church

Hazel was born on March 23,
1915 in Spring Valley,
Saskatchewan, and passed away on April 8, 2009
in Medicine Hat, Alberta at the age of 94 years. She
leaves to cherish her memory four children, Darel (Marlene)
Smathers, Vern (Phyllis) Smathers, Brenda (Verne) Schneider,
Devra (Harvey) Bechtold, a son-in-law, Roy (Janice) Funk;
numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great
grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The graveside services were held on Tuesday, April 14, 2009. |

Doris Gibson
Febuary 15, 1920 - March 27, 2009
Doris Gibson of Medicine Hat, passed away on Friday, March 27,
2009, at the age of 89 years, beloved wife of the late Alfred
Gibson. She leaves to cherish her memory two children, Nancy
(Bob) Lehr of Medicine Hat and Gary Gibson of Ottawa; two
grandchildren, Jason Lehr of Victoria and Nicole Lehr of
Winnipeg; one brother, Peter (Beryl) Deda of Pincher Creek and
one sister Nancy Kirkpatrick of Vancouver; as well as numerous
nieces and nephews and her dear friends Geri Moser, Glenda and
Doug Meloney and Nola and Brian Pearce whose numerous visits
over the years were most appreciated. Doris and Alfred resided
in Medicine Hat since 1956 where Doris was an Avon lady for over
30 years and was a member of the Moose Lodge and Westminster
United Church.

Marguerite
Irene Little
August 12, 1925 - March 20, 2009
Marguerite was born on
August 12, 1925 in Edmonton,
Alberta. As a young woman she tap-danced and received
awards for her singing. She left school at grade 10 to
work at Swifts Packing Plant doing inventory and pricing in
Edmonton. During the war years, she met Steward while he
was stationed in Edmonton. It was there that they were wed
in 1947 but moved to Guelph, Ontario, where Stewart completed
Veterinary College and they began their family. She was
her husbands right hand person, assisting in a successful
Veterinary practice in Taber. They lived in many
communities before making Medicine Hat their permanent home in
1966. Marguerite sang in various church choirs, and liked to
bowl, golf, curl, volunteer at the hospital gift shop, and play
Bridge. She also enjoyed working at Boylan's Drugs
downtown for several years. She was very observant and had
a keen eye for detail right up to the day of her death.
She will forever be remembered for her great homemade buns. She
passed away on March 20, 2009 in Medicine Hat, Alberta at the
age of 83 years.

Janice Elaine
Kalmring
April 7, 1937 - March 18, 2009
Janice Elaine Kalmring, beloved wife of the late Richard
Kalmring, passed away on Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at the age of
71 years. Janice was born on April 7, 1937 in Vidora,
Saskatchewan, a daughter to proud parents, Fred and Minnie
Behrman. She married Richard Kalmring on June 3, 1955 and began
their life together. Janice was a hardworking lady looking after
her children and enjoyed working on the farm as well as many
business adventures. She was talented in many capacities
including photography, ceramics and loved music and dancing.
Together with her husband, Richard, they formed their own
orchestra in Consol, Saskatchewan called “Charlie Brown and the
Wild Cats”.
In her younger years she was an outstanding athlete and was
nicknamed “Dynamite” In her later years she remained active and
was a member of the 70’s Club. Family was of most importance to
her and she always looked forward to family gatherings. Her
kind, thoughtful nature and witty spirit will be missed by her
family and friends.

Bryan Henry Stebbins
September 28, 1912 - March 2, 2009
Bryan was born on
September 28, 1912 in Tugaske,
Saskatchewan, and passed away on March 2, 2009
in Medicine Hat, Alberta at the age of 96 years.
Bryan was born in Tugaske, Saskatchewan to Henry and
Agatha Stebbins on September 28, 1912. As a young man he worked
for farmers around the area. He married Minnie Stuart on March
1, 1935. They farmed in the Halvorgate, Saskatchewan area for
several years, during that time daughter Pat was born. They
moved to Chaplin, Saskatchewan where he farmed and raised
cattle. He was adept at many jobs, carpentry and welding as well
as being an all round handyman whether it be electrical,
plumbing or keeping the vehicles and machinery in good running
order. Bryan was well known to lend a helping hand to friends
and neighbours, to say nothing of all the times he was called
out in the middle of the night to pull someone out of the ditch.
Bryan was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He had a
great sense of humour. He enjoyed playing cards, especially a
good game of bridge. Bryan retired in 1973 and sold the farm and
moved to Creston, BC. Full retirement was no to be, as well as
boating and fishing Bryan took on many renovation and other
construction jobs in and around the area. They lived there for
several years before moving to Medicine Hat to be near family.
He took up the hobby of building steam engines and the threshers
and wagons to accompany them. He displayed his engines, etc. at
The Medicine Hat Stampede and Echo Dale’s corn fest every fall.
They were quite an attraction. His last endeavour was a ? size
Model T Ford. He was often seen giving rides to folks around the
neighbourhood. He enjoyed nothing more than to have friends and
neighbours dropping in to check out his wares. Bryan will be
sadley missed by all who knew him.

William George Solley
February 18, 1916 - January 17, 2009
William (Bill) George Solley passed away peacefully on January
17 in Medicine Hat Hospital at the age of 92. Bill was born in
Medicine Hat on February 18, 1916. Bill lived on the same
street in Medicine Hat for ninety years before they moved to
Valleyview 2 years ago. He came from a CPR family. His father,
grandfather and brother, Steve, were all engineers. Bill worked
for the CPR for 37 years, retiring as an engineer 32 years ago
in November of 1976. He was a lifetime member of the Masonic
Lodge. Looking after his beautiful yard for everyone to enjoy
was important to Bill. His family still cherishes the many
unique and finely done ceramics he painted for his yard and
home. Bill always had a pet dog to love, but when the girls
were young, he also had pet rabbits, budgie birds, hamsters and
even a monkey. Bill loved to have fun and every year he looked
forward to Stampede time, when after the parade he had his
annual backyard party with family and friends. Everyone always
had a great time. He especially loved the little ones, who
always brought a smile to his face, as he held them. All those
who knew and loved him will greatly miss him.

Mary Edith Wallace
September 16, 1914 ~ January 17, 2009
Mary Wallace passed away at the Canmore Regional Hospital on
Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the age of 94 years. Mary was
born and raised in Medicine Hat, Alberta where she resided until
2002. After graduating high school in Medicine Hat, Mary went
on to attend the University of Alberta where she pursued not
only her Degree in Home Economics but also her passion for
sport. She served as President of the Women's Athletic Club and
was Captain of the University of Alberta Women's Hockey Team.
In 1940, Mary was married to Stewart Wallace and she settled in
Medicine Hat to raise her family. Her life long interests
continued to include skating, hiking in the mountains, growing
roses and playing bridge. She was an avid sports fan, following
hockey, figure skating, curling and baseball. Mary was an
active and dedicated member of the Westminster United Church UCW
Edythe Hewitt Unit until she left Medicine Hat to move to
Canmore in 2002. Above all, Mary loved to be with her family.

Heather Anne Keith
September 27, 1954 - January 13, 2009
With heavy hearts, the family of Heather Anne Keith, announce
that she passed away peacefully at the Foothills Hospital in
Calgary on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at the age of 54 years.
Heather was born in Medicine Hat on September 27, 1954. She was
educated in Medicine Hat and gained her first employment with
the Medicine Hat Health Unit. This was followed by 15 years of
service in Victoria, B.C. where she was employed by the B.C.
Civil Service and then served as a paralegal for a local law
firm. She returned a few years later and obtained employment in
Calgary with Aspen Social Services. Heather had a keen sense of
humor and enjoyed the company of her family and liked to visit
with them. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved
her.
