After the war, he found employment working with his oldest brother, James, in Willmar, SK at the Searle Elevator.

At Willmar in 1948, a young eighteen-year-old woman named Gracie May Edmunds went head-over-heels for him while attending a Christmas concert dance. On July 12th, 1950, Wilbur married his sweetheart, Grace, in Willmar. Wilbur and his new wife’s first elevator posting was Thundercreek. Their first child, Allan, was born in the nearby town of Central Butte. After Thundercreek, the family was posted in Simmie and Esmie before moving to Milestone in 1953, where the next four children were born, Dwight, Gregory, Rodney, and Andrea.

Amongst Wilbur’s interests were a 65-year Legion Membership, square dancing, baseball, army cadets, curling, volunteer fire department, and many community service groups.
