WUC Update – October 2026
Hello everyone! Lots of activity in October this year, and amazing weather to enjoy!
- October 1, 2026 – United Nations International Day of Older Persons. It reminds us to recognize older people as valued members of society whose voices, choices, and participation matter. On this day, and throughout the year we honour the people whose lives have helped shape our families and communities. We celebrate their contributions, recognize their rights, and reflect on what it means to support people with dignity as they grow older. I’ve attached an excerpt on this topic.
- October 2, 2026 7:00 pm to October 4, 2026 12:00 pm Great news from the Rural Ministry Conference! Our keynote sessions with Rev Dr Catherine Smith will be livestreamed through the Chinook Winds Region’s YouTube channel! Tune in Friday, October 2 @7pm and Saturday, October 3 @9:30 am & 4 pm MT
- October 3, 2026 – Fifth Avenue Memorial Fall Supper. If you missed getting tickets for this event, Gordon Memorial United Church in Redcliff is holding its fall supper on October 24. See Details Below.
- October 4, 2026 is World Communion Day. I am not positive which local churches will be participating , but did you know the United Church of Canada has approved taking communion online. You can tune into your favorite online church service, and join in the sacraments by preparing a small piece of bread and a small glass of wine or grape juice for yourself, or for friends and family who are participating. An attachment with prayer for World Communion Day may assist you in your individual communion.
- October 7, 2026 10:00 am to 2:30 pm South Alberta Cluster will gather at Pincher Creek (AB) United Church from 10 am to 2:30 pm. Rev. Dr. Geoffrey Simmins will speak on The Compass Rose of Spiritual Care. RSVP to [rev.taylor.croissant@gmail.
